About this work
A colour lithograph titled "Shy" by John Samuel Pughe, dated 1906, shows a bearded figure in a U.S. Mail bag and a cap labelled St. Valentine offering envelopes at a partly opened door. Behind the door, caricatured men with labelled names peer out, while a further labelled figure in a plaid scarf stands in a window pane.
