About this work
This triptych print shows a dramatic river crossing, with a mounted rider leaping a horse across churning blue water beside a rocky gorge. A warrior in red armor clings to a cliff at right while a small boat of soldiers moves along the upper river, and the rapids swirl through the central panel. Utagawa Kuniyoshi made the print in 1853, and the title is Gentoku uma o odorashite tankei o koeru zu.
