About this work
A hand-colored lithographic caricature titled Una catastrofe, published in the Papagallo series, shows a ringmaster-like figure cracking a long whip over a line of struggling men in uniforms and costumes. The scene is set against a hazy skyline of domes and minarets beneath a crescent moon, with small armed figures and a dog in the foreground. The print is attributed to Augusto Grossi and dated 1877.
