About this work

This triptych of woodblock prints shows three kabuki actors in elaborate patterned costumes, set against pine branches, a blossoming tree and layered blue mountains. The left figure leaps with outstretched arms, the center figure in a patterned robe stands beside the tree, and the right figure in a green and white garment crouches holding a red broom. The work is attributed to Toyokuni Utagawa and dated 1818, with names of the performers written in the margins.
