About this work
A colored lithographic caricature shows several national figures and stereotyped characters around a village of fences, houses and signs, with a large steel trap baited with a gold nugget at the center. The captions below are in Italian and French and frame the scene as a rich, clever gentleman avoiding the traps set around him. The print is attributed to Augusto Grossi and dated 1879.
