About this work
A colored lithographic caricature from the Papagallo series, numbered 25 and dated Anno VI, shows a group of exaggerated male figures in Ottoman dress and European uniforms beside a crumbling monumental gate labeled La Sublime Porta. Pyramids marked Guerra and Pace, a wheelbarrow, and rubble suggest a satirical commentary on the collapse of the gate.
