About this work
A colored political cartoon titled The modern Arnolds, printed in 1908 by John Samuel Pughe. A large, seated caricature of a corporate figure wearing a National Resource Grabber sash gestures over a banner listing franchises, special privileges, land patents, mineral rights, tax exemptions and timber grants, while officials in top hats pull at it. An inset recalls the Benedict Arnold betrayal, and a torn oath of office lies on the ground beside felled logs.
