About this work
A colored political cartoon shows caricatured elderly women and men tugging ropes that pull at a statue of three uniformed soldiers atop a pedestal inscribed A.D. 1898 and a commemorative text about the Spanish-American War. A domed capitol building appears in the background, and a barrel labeled Evening Post stands on the right. The work is titled Our busy old women and is attributed to John Samuel Pughe, dated 1899.
