About this work
A colourful chromolithographic cartoon shows a factory interior with a Prosperity Engine driven by a figure in overalls labelled McKinley, while two workers tend a Protection Boiler fed with high duties coal and a Sound Financial Policy Boiler. A Republican whistle releases steam, and the boiler is marked with high tariff defeat dates of 1890 and 1892. The print is dated 1897 and is attributed to John Samuel Pughe.
