About this work
A hand-colored lithographic caricature shows a lavish banquet where figures in ancient-style costume sit at a long table laden with dishes labeled Fruit of Monopoly, Rebate Grapes, and Draw Back Bonbons. A large hand emerging from clouds and a burst of light inscribes the words Rate Legislation above the scene, while a seated ruler in a crowned headdress watches from a draped throne. Titled Belshazzarfeller's feast, the work is credited to John Samuel Pughe and dated 1905.
