About this work
This Japanese woodblock-style print, dated 1898 and attributed to Kōtei Fukui, shows broad green leaves, spiky thistle-like plants, clusters of red berries and pale pink blossoms growing along a pale blue waterway. The composition is set against a soft, mostly empty background with light grey tones and fine ink outlines, as published in the Kachō gafu, Pl.07 album.
