About this work
A hand-coloured caricature by Samuel Ehrhart from 1898 titled Another proposed war tax. Two queues of well-dressed men wait at counters beneath signs for a bachelors tax and a bonus for married men, while families with children, a baby carriage and a dog move through the scene. The composition contrasts the men paying the bachelors tax with the married men and their households.
