About this work
A caricature-style print shows a caped, top-hatted man striking a rock inscribed with the word PROSPERITY, from which a stream of gold coins pours down. Below, a crowd of men, women and children reaches out with baskets, pails and hats, while a factory town with smoking chimneys sits on the hill beyond. The work is by John Samuel Pughe, dated 1897.
