About this work
A chromolithographic political cartoon titled Swallowed! by John Samuel Pughe, dated 1900. A large snake labeled Populist Party coils around a man's head, whose open mouth engulfs a donkey wearing a Democratic Party collar, while the donkey's hind legs kick outside the jaws. The scene is set in a tropical landscape with palm trees and distant hills.
