About this work
A crowded chromolithographic political caricature shows figures in a legislative chamber, with a gavel-wielding man standing on a rostrum and labeled placards reading "This is the 54th Congress" and "This is Cleveland, Hit him again." The figures are drawn with exaggerated features and costumes, including feathered headdresses, a man reading "Reminiscences of John Sherman," and a figure labeled "This is John Bull." The work is titled "A few pleasant recollections of the fifty-fourth Congress" and was made by John Samuel Pughe in 1896.
