About this work
A colored lithographic caricature shows a crowded steamer labeled High Protection and Monopoly & Co. Builders, its passengers carrying mortgages, IOUs and unpaid bills, while a captain gestures from the deck toward a pier. A large sign promises a fortune for every passenger, and the Capitol dome is visible in the distance. Frederick Burr Opper made this print in 1896.
