About this work
A chromolithographic political cartoon by Bernhard Gillam, dated 1884, shows caricatured politicians in Egyptian-style costume and mummy cases lined up in a tomb-like vault. Labels such as 'Ready for the next one' and 'Found out' appear among hieroglyphic-style decoration, while a figure in chains and a flaming brazier sit in the foreground. The composition satirizes Republican figures accused of corruption.
