About this work
A colored political cartoon by Bernhard Gillam from 1885 titled "No more of those hideous monuments!" It shows a crowded park filled with statues of military officers, politicians and horsemen, including a seated figure labeled W. H. Seward and a standing Lincoln figure, while a small caricatured figure with a pitchfork and a seated Uncle Sam look on. An inset panel labeled "Puck's Idea of It" shows a large building with a flag and crowds of people.
