About this work
A densely composed print shows numerous seated figures in dark court robes and black lacquered hats arranged across a gold background, with patterned garments in red, blue and green. Pale screen panels with fine linear motifs frame the upper left, and the figures are shown in a variety of postures. This print by Shiichi Tajima, dated 1903, is titled The Thirty-six Poets.
