About this work
A colored satirical print titled The United States abroad, made by Carl Hassmann in 1907. A man in a black suit serves a dish from a platter to a formal dinner party of uniformed officers, a woman in a feathered hat, and a seated figure in a patterned robe, with a box labeled Breakfast Food on the table. The lavish interior with a folding screen, draped curtains and a bust on the wall gives the scene a theatrical, caricatured quality.
