About this work
This woodblock-style illustration from Unai no tomo, plate 7, by Shimizu Seifū, dated 1913, shows two paired garments with pointed tops decorated in layered red, blue, brown and white bands. The white robes carry green sashes, blue rounded motifs and a red lattice pattern, with black-ink tassels arching above each figure. The Japanese labels at the top distinguish the female and male versions.
