About this work
A woodblock print shows the long wooden Ryōgoku Bridge crossed by crowds of onlookers, with red fireworks bursting in the night sky above. Below, rowing boats with passengers and lanterns move across the blue river beneath the bridge's dark trestle supports. This Utagawa Hiroshige print from 1858 is held by the museum and is titled Ryôgoku; Fireworks at Ryôgoku (hanabi).
