About this work
A woodblock print shows a kabuki actor in a red kimono with blue pine-needle motifs and a brown checkered hakama, holding a sword and a large black-and-white umbrella. The actor wears stylized face paint and a theatrical hairstyle, set against a blue backdrop with circular floral patterns. The print is attributed to Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III), dated ca. 1830.
