About this work
This lithographic print depicts the explosion and sinking of the U.S. battleship Maine in a churning sea, with sailors thrown into the air and struggling in the water. Oval portraits of two officers appear at the top, alongside vignettes of Havana harbor and rescuers recovering the dead. Printed in 1898 by Kurz & Allison, the work is documented with dimensions, armament, and casualty details in its lower margin.
