About this work
A mezzotint-style print shows a seated man with white hair in a dark coat, white cravat and waistcoat, resting one arm on a draped table beside a stack of books, against a shadowed background with a curtain. A small engraved vignette of a columned building with trees appears below the portrait. Elson & Co. in 1897.
