About this work
A hand-coloured celestial chart shows the constellation Scorpio as a large green scorpion with outstretched claws and a segmented tail, set against a deep blue sky crossed by a red dashed line and pale bands. Golden star symbols mark the constellation's stars, with a white ecliptic-style line running across the scene. This print by Johann Bayer is dated 1624.
