About this work
A hand-colored star chart from Johann Bayer's 1603 atlas shows the figure of Cepheus, a man in a red turban and flowing yellow cape with a patterned red and green skirt and laced sandals, set against a deep blue sky. Gold dots mark the stars and pale blue lines trace the constellation's outline and celestial coordinates.
