About this work
A hand-colored celestial chart shows a muscular bearded figure wearing a lion skin, holding a club in one hand and a branch of fruit-bearing leaves in the other, set against a deep blue starry sky with gold-outlined star markers and white constellation lines. This is Johann Bayer's 1624 print titled Hercules, from the Uranometria star atlas.
