About this work
A hand-coloured celestial illustration shows the centaur Sagittarius drawing a bow, with a winged human upper body on a pale horse body against a blue ground. Gold star symbols and Greek letter labels mark the constellation's stars, and faint grid lines run across the plate. This is Johann Bayer's Sagittarius from 1603.
