About this work
A hand-colored star chart from Johann Bayer's 1624 Uranometria shows the figure of Perseus, a helmeted warrior in a red cloak holding a sword and a shield bearing the Medusa head. The constellation's stars are marked with Greek letters over a deep blue sky, with a curved harpe blade sweeping across the upper right.
