About this work
A hand-coloured celestial chart from Johann Bayer's 1624 Uranometria shows constellation figures against a deep blue sky, linked by blue lines and marked with gold star symbols. The central figure is a richly coloured peacock with a fanned tail, labelled as Pavo, alongside a winged bird, a serpent, a fish, and a figure holding a staff.
