About this work
A hand-colored celestial chart from Johann Bayer's 1624 atlas shows the constellation Orion as a muscular figure raising a club, draped in a lion skin and clothed in a pale garment. Gold star symbols mark the stars across a deep blue sky, with Greek letter labels beside the figure. The title is Orion, and the work is a print by Johann Bayer dated 1624.
