About this work

A hand-colored celestial chart shows the constellation Lyra as a lyre with an eagle perched across its frame, its wings spread and a golden serpent coiling around the instrument. Stars are marked with small gold rosettes against a deep blue sky, with the band of the Milky Way crossing the lower left. This print, titled Lyra, was made by Johann Bayer in 1603.
