About this work
A hand-colored celestial chart from Johann Bayer's 1603 star atlas shows a wolf rearing up beside a bearded figure who holds a vine of ivy, with yellow star symbols and Greek letter labels marking the constellation Lupus and Centaurus. Blue bands at the top and a dark blue sky frame the composition, and a red vessel hangs near the wolf's hindquarters. The plate is titled Lupus and Centaurus and is attributed to Johann Bayer, dated 1603.
