About this work
A hand-colored celestial chart shows a centaur holding a leafy branch and a staff, with a wolf-like creature rising beside him against a deep blue starry sky. Stars are marked with Greek letters and gold star symbols, and the figures are set on a pale band representing the Milky Way. This is Johann Bayer's Lupus and Centarus from 1603.
