About this work
A hand-colored celestial chart shows the figure of Auriga, a bearded man in a green cap and red cloak, holding reins and cradling a goat on his shoulder against a deep blue starry background. Gold star symbols and Greek letter labels mark the constellation's stars, with a pale band of the Milky Way crossing the upper right. This 1624 print by Johann Bayer depicts the constellation as a mythological charioteer.
