About this work
A hand-colored star chart shows a nude woman with long flowing hair, bound in chains between two rocky cliffs, with her arms stretched outward. Golden stars mark her body and the surrounding night sky, and fine blue lines trace the constellation outlines. This print by Johann Bayer dates from 1624.
