About this work
A hand-colored lithograph titled Le figurine mondiali, dated 1877 and attributed to Augusto Grossi, shows a procession of caricatured national figures on a dirt road. A central figure in a green uniform and fur hat leads, while a bearded man carries a platform bearing a castle labeled Dardanelli and small figures of other nations, accompanied by snarling dogs and a pig. The Italian caption beneath reads as a warning that each figure belongs to a different party and that the Dardanelles must be claimed or the others will be dissatisfied.
