About this work
A colored lithographic caricature titled La polenta, dated 1877 and attributed to Augusto Grossi, shows exaggerated figures gathered around a large black cauldron of yellow polenta in a kitchen. Two bearded men lean over the pot while a chef, a soldier in a feathered hat, and costumed figures in regional dress look on, with labels reading Asia, Tirolo, Istria, and Malta. The Papagallo No. 27 masthead and the caption in Italian and English frame the scene.
