About this work
A colored political caricature shows national personifications gathered on a palatial floor, each holding a scroll labeled with a claim for indemnity. Russia, Japan, Germany, and England hold balance scales, while a kneeling figure labeled China pleads with clasped hands and Uncle Sam watches from the right beside a small child at a scale. The print, titled Too Many Shylocks, was published by J. S. Pughe in 1901.
