About this work

A colored political caricature shows portly men in exaggerated Japanese-style robes dancing on a wooden stage beneath hanging lanterns and pine branches, with a pagoda behind them. Names on sashes and banners, including Roosevelt, Taft, and Department of Justice, identify the figures, and two kneeling men in white robes are labeled Business and Finance. The work is titled 'The Mikado' - second and last act, created by John Samuel Pughe in 1908 as a print.
