About this work
A colored political cartoon shows a smiling man in a green jacket and plaid trousers riding a donkey draped with a blue cloth reading "Democracy" and waving a hat labeled "Bryan". Below, rioters with clubs and raised fists attack an overturned railway car amid bursts of smoke and flame, under a dark cloud spelling "RIOTS STRIKES". The work is dated 1900 and signed by J. S. Pughe and bears the Keppler & Schwarzmann copyright line and the J. Ottmann Lith. Co. Puck Bldg. N.Y. imprint.
