About this work
A colored caricature shows Uncle Sam in a striped suit and top hat, holding a fistful of banknotes in a street lined with shopfronts. Signs on each shop name a country and the amount of goods sold to Uncle Sam last year, while a ragged figure labeled Spain turns out his empty pockets. This print by John Samuel Pughe is dated 1898.
