About this work
A colored lithographic caricature shows a towering Uncle Sam gesturing toward a stack of export cargo, labeled with products such as rye, cotton, provisions, mineral oil, wheat, and oats, with dollar values printed on them. Smaller caricatured figures representing Austria, Russia, France, Germany, and Italy stand on a quay looking up at him beside a ship. The work is by John Samuel Pughe and dated 1898.
