About this work
A colour caricature shows two industrial magnates in a hillside scene: one in a striped suit holds a money bag labelled Schwab and gestures toward a smoky factory town with workers, while a kilted, bearded man labelled Carnegie holds a bag marked with a dollar sign beside a basket reading $10,000,000 for Scotch Universities. Banknotes and coins are scattered on the grass, and graduates in gowns walk toward a domed university building at the upper right. This print by John Samuel Pughe is dated 1901.
