About this work
A colored political cartoon titled "A self-evident fact" by John Samuel Pughe, dated 1897. Uncle Sam sits in a red rowboat labeled "Dingley Bill" and paddles with an oar marked "Monopoly" across a pond labeled "Republican Goose Pond," with "Home Market" written in the water beneath him. Steamships flying flags, including ones labeled Germany and Ireland, appear on the horizon.
