About this work
A blue-toned print shows a robed clergyman at a pulpit inside a Gothic church, holding a book labeled Holy Ledger and a key marked with a dollar sign, beneath the banner 'The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.' Below, a crowded slum landscape is labeled with street names such as Filth Lane, Tuberculosis Alley, Fire Trap and Thug Corner. This Art Young print from 1909 contrasts religious authority with urban poverty.
