About this work
A colorful lithograph by Udo Keppler from 1902 shows a helmeted, armored female figure labeled Britannia holding a banner inscribed Civilization. She stands before armed European-style soldiers, while on the right a charging force of spear-carrying warriors on foot and horseback advances beneath a banner reading Barbarism. Fallen figures lie in the foreground along a grassy coastline.
