About this work
This plate from Unai no tomo, attributed to Shimizu Seifū and dated 1913, shows a stylized box or panel built from stacked bands of yellow, orange, green, purple and black. Vertical wood-grain hatching marks the base, and a column of Japanese calligraphy appears in the lower right corner.
