About this work
This print from Chōjū ryakugashiki, Pl.47, attributed to Masayoshi Kitao, shows a group of sea creatures drawn with dark ink outlines and soft color washes. A ray-like creature with a frowning face floats at upper left, an octopus-like form curls at upper right, two blue-backed fish swim across the center, and two pink fish with long fins rest at the lower edge.
